Brazil Data Cube joined the 8th Pantanal Geotechnology Symposium (GeoPantanal)

The technologies, tools and products from Brazil Data Cube (BDC) were presented at the 8th Symposium on Geotechnologies in Pantanal, held on November 11th and 13th, 2024, at the SESC Pantanal in the municipality of Poconé, Mato Grosso – MT.

The event brought together experts and students to discuss the use of geotechnologies in Pantanal studies, providing a space for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, integrating professionals from academic-scientific communities and students of various levels — technical, undergraduate, and postgraduate. The event also covered the surrounding areas of the Pantanal, located in Bolivia and Paraguay, within the Upper Paraguay River Basin.

One of the highlights of the 8th edition was the use of computational applications. In this context, the BDC team gave a lecture on the project. Topics presented included the challenge of large volumes of satellite images, the production of multidimensional data cubes, and the benefits of time series analysis. The software products such as web services STAC, WTSS, and WLTS for discovery and access to Earth observation data were also discussed.

The opening session of the event was attended by the Vice-Rector for Research and Graduate Studies (UNEMAT) Áurea Ignácio and the president of the committee João Vila. Other participants included the Acting Secretary of State for Science, Technology, and Innovation of Mato Grosso, Rodrigo Zanin; the General Coordinator of the Department of Territorial Environmental Planning at the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change, Bruno Abe Saber; the head of the Earth Observation and Geoinformatics Division at INPE, Karine Ferreira Gomes; and the Municipal Secretary of the Environment of Poconé, Lauro Leite.

This year, the event was held in partnership with the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (Embrapa), the National Institute for Space Research (Inpe), and the São Paulo State University (Unesp). It received support from Selper Brasil, the Ra’e Ga magazine from the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR), the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp), the Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), the Social Service of Commerce (Sesc), the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Renewable Natural Resources (Ibama), and the Federal Government through the Ministries of Science, Technology and Innovation, Agriculture and Livestock, and Environment and Climate Change, with sponsorship from Visiona Space Technology, Regenera Sustainable Solutions, the Gaia Institute, and MapBiomas.
