Brazil Data Cube team joined to the Opening Table at Rio de Janeiro State Geotechnologies Conference
On 2 December 2024, the Brazil Data Cube (BDC) team took part in the opening session of the 7th edition of JGEOTEC – Jornada de Geotecnologias, an event that brings together specialists and fosters academic integration in the state of Rio de Janeiro, held at the Palácio da Fazenda.
JGEOTEC is a biannual event with a national reach and has established itself as a space for debate on studies in Geotechnologies and Geoinformation. Researchers, professors, postgraduates and undergraduates from all over Brazil and even abroad take part in the event, as long as the work presented is aligned with the theme of the event.
In the last edition, as well as the traditional presentations of papers, lectures and round tables, the programme included mini-courses, workshops and fun activities such as the orienteering race and the children’s map competition, which were very popular with teachers and students.
Julio César Dalla M. Esquerdo (Empraba), Cassio Freitas Pereira de Almeida (IBGE) and Karine Reis Ferreira (INPE) took part in the opening panel on Brazil’s Data Cubes. This opened the discussion on the large volumes of satellite images, the production of multidimensional data cubes and the benefits of analysing time series, including the activities of the BDC project, such as the development of tools and geotechnologies for discovering and accessing Earth Observation data.
