INPE receives visit of CSIRO representative at OBT
On December 9, 2019, the Earth Observation General Coordination (OBT) and Brazil Data Cube project team received a visit from Jonathan Hodge, who is a representative of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO).
Jonathan joined CSIRO in 2011, currently, he is a Program Director at CSIRO’s Santiago, Chile office, and leading the development area in Latin America. His experience is based on development, implementing and operating of environmental data and information systems in the government and research sectors in Australia and around the world. He specializes in finding innovative and collaborative solutions to challenging problems through the use of new and emerging technologies.
At INPE, Jonathan presented the initiatives that CSIRO has been doing in Australia and Chile. These initiatives concentrate on environmental monitoring, modeling and information systems, focusing on solutions for governments and industry. He also highlighted CSIRO’s work on information platforms to support Earth observation, including the time series sensor platform.
CSIRO co-developed the Open Data Cube (ODC) in Australia, and the Brazil Data Cube team has been working with this initiative to leverage the creation their cubes.
Besides, attending technical meetings with OBT (head Dr. Lubia Vinhas), this visit was important to evaluate strategies for possible scientific cooperation between CSIRO and the Brazil Data cube project.
