Brazil Data Cube team held a special edition of BIG TechTalks in celebration of Love Data Day Brazil
On June 3, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Brazil Data Cube team held a special edition of BIG TechTalks at the National Institute for Space Research (INPE) in celebration of the Love Data Day Brazil event, promoted by the Brazilian Computer Society (SBC).
Open to the public and online, the event reinforces the importance of dissemination, open access and appreciation of scientific data, which is fundamental for the advancement of science and society. At the event, data and applications from the Brazil Data Cube platform were presented, as well as case studies with access to and use of images from the GOES and Sentinel-2 collections, precipitation and temperature data, and the use of satellite images for spatio-temporal analysis of changes in landscape cover due to agricultural cycles and the occurrence of fires.
The event’s agenda was divided into:
- Brazil Data Cube Platform – Karine Reis Ferreira;
- Integrated Geospatial Data Catalog Using Data Cube Explorer – Gilberto Queiroz, Gabriel Sansigolo;
- Brazil Data Cube Geospatial Data Science Environment (BDC-Lab) – Luana Luz;
- Sentinel-2 Image Access, Visualization and Processing using Python – Rennan Marujo;
- Visualizing GOES images with the DSAT web application – Douglas Uba;
- Accessing and Processing GOES Images using STAC and Python – Douglas Uba;
- Accessing Precipitation and Temperature data using STAC and Python – Alex de Almeida Fernandes;
- Mapping water quality parameters with Sentinel-2 using STAC, Python and R – Rogério Flores Júnior.
The training was carried out online for 160 participants who did all the practical part of the course in the BDC-Lab (Brazil Data Cube Geospatial Data Science Lab) environment.
